A poem by Traci Weafer As a doula, I held you I held her in my arms and she cried My arms open soft and wide Her tears I felt on my shoulder warm As her heart in pieces forever torn They didn't see a heartbeat, she said All the joy in her face turned to sadness and spread No words I had her heart would touch My heart broke for her oh so much She needed me to just listen and be She needed to mourn her child she would not see A Doula to give her compassion and grace To flood the floor with tears at her own pace No wrong or right way to process the facts She would blame herself, was it her own acts Listen I did and barely said a word A mother's love, I watched and heard A love poured out in moans for her child For this was loud, sharp not mild Saying goodbye to your little one Saying goodbye will never be done A mother you are forever too A mother you are forever is you.
