The hierarchy of power in the maternity system is a myth. We have collapsed under the illusion that we are “only” doulas and we have no place on a birth team. We are hired by our clients for specific reasons: they need more support, education, and advocacy. My collaborative workshops will help you, understand deeper advanced doula topics in an encouraging, safe, and nourishing setting so you can reflect, grow, and solidify why you began this work. Advocacy in doula work starts with YOU!  We can not be 100% for our clients if we are not 100% ourselves.
Opportunities to bundle the workshop and KYP courses. Read descriptions of each opportunity from Traci below.
Keeping Your Power for Doulas & CBEs: A masterclass to solidify a consumer's self advocacy skills.
This course walks you through a communication and roleplay process with your clients on how to understand and keep their power in your relationship, prenatal appts with their provider, and in labor & birth.
&
The Advanced Doula workshop is a workshop in deeper topics of doula work including communicating with a care team and non confrontational advocacy. LEVEL 1 or  LEVEL 2
&
The Client Interview is an online course that will give you secrets and insights of how to get a signed contract after every interview.
You can sign up for the workshop separately or bundle all educational opportunities. If you would like to bundle these continuing education opportunities you will receive a steep discount. When you purchase the bundle, you will receive an email with the codes for the KYP course and interview course through teachable after the completion of the workshop.

2021 In Person Workshops

This workshop is split into two important sessions:
LEVEL 1: 4 hours
  • Understanding the advocate doula role
  • The oppression myth
  • Identifying explicit/implicit bias
  • Understanding Perspective
  • communication skills and tools
You will walk away from this workshop with the confidence in your doula role, a new thinking in doula work and skills in understanding how to approach the birth team in preparing for advocacy.
Level 2 4 hours
  • Communication skills II
  • Levels of advocacy prenatally and during birth
  • Intro to Keeping Your Power®
You will walk away from this workshop with skills to facilitate conversation around your birthing family, while remembering and practicing the skills learned in Level 1. You will learn prenatal advocacy skills as well as in person advocacy in the birthroom when prompted by the client.
Level 1 is NOT a pre requisite for Level 2, but strongly encouraged.

Level 3 all day level 1&2 required
this is a day of advocacy support and discussion of case studies around your experiences and birth culture. This is also a time of renewal and love from other advocate doulas.
"My goal in creating The Advanced Doula Workshops is to help doulas become unwavering in their understanding of the Doula profession and the work and growth that needs to happen before implementing advocacy skills in prenatal conversations and in the birth setting." - Traci Weafer

What was the most important information you learned and how will you implement it in your doula work?

"My whole understanding of what a doula's role has completely shifted! This little tiny seed, the seed that doulas should not speak for their clients, was planted when I took my initial doula training.  It's been watered for years by the messages I've heard from others and the oppression I've experienced in the birth room that I am of lower status than all others.  This tiny seed has grown into a field of weeds.  I'm ready to clear the field and start anew--I feel empowered to speak up, to teach my clients to speak up, to fight for clients rights if their words are dismissed, and help them welcome an experience of empowerment and strength." ~ Teresa L. Cupertino, CA
Doula, do you shy away from the word "advocacy" because it has a negative meaning? Are you feeling oppressed and bullied in your own profession? Read about internalized oppression in the doula profession here.

What if you could learn how to be an advocate for your clients without confrontation and feel like the team comes together and the focus is on the birthing family?

I've created a workshop that does just that! This workshop will build your confidence, lower your anxiety, and create a safe birthing space for your families free of negativity and stress. Evidence-based care includes the preferences of the birthing family, and those preference include doula support!

If you do not know your power in doula work, you CAN NOT serve your clients 100%. That might be a bold statement, but TRUE.

my name is Brittany, and I just took the advanced doula workshop by Traci Weafer. I believe Doulas should take this workshop because...

Advocacy is an essential part of a doula's role and it is often ignored or discouraged by doula training organizations. This training has the power to save lives and protect birthing people from trauma. It is time we embraced our power and authority as one of the most valuable and key influences in the birth space and use it for good. We can no longer look away or remain silent!

Yes, i'M READY TO RACE AHEAD IN MY GROWTH!

Due to the Covid-19 virus and transition the country makes to flatten the curve, I am offering The Advanced Doula Workshop Online for a limited time only!
We are in the  process of discussing how to process with the workshop whether it is another online opportunity or in person workshops 2021! Please let me know your thoughts through email.

"When a woman is not warned and they do have a doula, they assume you're telling them everything. It's almost like a false sense of security and not warning your client is more dangerous than them going in ready for the unknown."~ Caroline

Go here and watch a short interview with Caroline about why she believes doulas should advocate and more importantly, know how to advocate.

It is TRANSFORMATIONAL! There is so much relevant information that doula trainings leave out. If we are truly to serve our clients, and serve them well, we need to learn and implement the skills and strategies taught for KeepingYourPower℠  I have so much more confidence in my ability to be there for my clients and support them in their autonomy. The communication with clients prenatally was super helpful. Having examples of how to talk through things and focusing on what's important was eyeopening. I knew there was a better way than throwing information at them, but I didn't know what that was. Now I have the skills and tools to help my clients recognize their autonomy and how to keep their power.
